This video captures the moment of tip leakage flow breakdown caused by local flow instability in a centrifugal compressor.

This result is part of my research to understand flow physics during a transition period of a centrifugal compressor from a stable to an unstable mode (rotating stall).

This result shows the tip leakage flow breakdown is the cause of measured large magnitude pressure fluctuations in the compressor before rotating stall happens.

This research work has been presented at the American Society of Mechanical Engineering Turbo Expo 2019.
